We should be thankful to the great American Author ‘LEE FALK‘ for introducing his great character ‘phantom’ Through his comics,depicting, that we should Fight against crime,injustice and cruelty,with a lot of emphasis on ‘mercy’which is slowly evaporating from our earth.
If some of us who have gone through his comics on ‘phantom’will surely remember that he always shows his fight against the ‘pirates’ who were a menace to the mankind.Apart from this the phantom never praises himself for all the good acts done by him and gives ‘Credit’ to others.This character is rarely found one in a lakh people.
I would like to bring to your kind memory, some of his ‘Comics’which were brought out by Lee Falk, and The Times of India, were good enough to bring to us thro their ‘Indrajal comics’.
Now a days also, we see some books penned by some authors under the phantom Titles’ but alas, the series brought out, are like Comparing light from a glow-worm to the sun.
I am delighted to bring hereunder a few of the comics which i had read some 5 decades back,so that the younger generation of these days can try to imbibe them in their daily life.
‘The phantom’s belt’: this the phantom shows that when his father dies,who is killed by deceit and cunning ness,takes on his father’s costume and swears to end injustice, treachery and cruelty, by swearing upon his fathers skull.
‘THE ROPE PEOPLE’: In this two people namely a father and his daughter are captured by the Rope people(they being cannibals) and the Phantom, goes to save them.He is also caught by the rope-people and ask him to prove that he is the real ‘phantom ‘ by doing several feats,like fighting a tiger bear- handed, fight a hermit- giant etc. The phantom wins and the Rope people set free, the two people, because when the phantom is asked to kill ‘ The Hermit giant, he refuses. The Rope people are impressed with this act of phantom ,Because they say mercy ‘is a word unknown in the jungle and when phantom shows mercy they are happy about the Character of the phantom’.
‘Prince ork’: prince ork is a hauty prince and tries to take vengence against The phantom’and sends his infantry, cavalry,to defeat the phantom and finally ends up with defeat.
‘Queen samaris:: in this comic, a queen by name Samaris, thro the help of witch,becomes ‘always young’ there by becoming immortal.But the witch cautions the Queen,that ‘she should never fall im love with a man’ When Samaris hears about the phantom, she also thinks the phantom is like her only (infact the present phantom is a motal man and since he has vouched to follow his father and fore-fathers steps everyone thinks he is really 400 years old) Hence the Queen proclaims openly that she is ‘ in love with the phantom’.The moment she utters this ‘she is reduced to ashes’.
‘The lunar cult’: some jungle people who practise witch craft, believes in a practise called ‘lunar cult’,in which they abduct innocent people and put them to death. the phantom having come to know,destroys the cult,saying superstition has a no place in society, and human sacrifice is an offence.
‘The Imposter’: A convict escapes from jail,and takes the garb of the phantom,who was having a swim.He dresses himself and does many awaful acts which naturally bring a bad name to ‘Tbe character of tbe phantom’ The phantom finally catches the escaped prisone and puts him behind bars.
These are some stories in my memory.i shall be happy if the younger generation,who happens to be the pillars of the modern world,imbibe the Characters of the phantom,thereby giving a chance to the noble work done by Lee Falk.
