‘SAFETY IF FIRST,IF YOU MAKE IT LAST, YOU ARE LOST’
‘Road safety is not only preventing you, riding over someone accidently, but avoiding someone riding over you is the ESSENCE OF ROAD SAFETY.’
I would like to quote two instances due to which i and my friend would have met the reserved space 6×3, due to shear NEGLIGENCE. These incidents took place some 20-30 years back.
It was a SUNDAY morning,I woke up from bed at about 10 am and suddenly heard some drum beats resembling that of a funeral procession. My rented house being situated on the first floor, i went towards the balcony to satisfy my curiosity. Around the balcony, there were railings, to prevent someone fall, as you find in most of the places. I held my hand over the railing, and slightly bent a little to peer, thro the street as the road was diagonal to my view. Suddenly i felt, as if my heart skipped a beat, for I lost my standing position and was upside down. My foot was pointing up towards 2 O’clock position and my head was pointing down towards the 5′ O’clock. My position was like a see-saw. I thought my last hour has come because i was on the first floor. My left hand was still on the railing tightly gripping it and my right hand frantically grouped something at the bottom, which was nothing but the extension of a parapet wall. I did not expect it to be there, but it was there alright. I Should thank my reflexes, with all my effort i pulled myself back to original position, with the left hand giving the necessary support on the railing and the right hand pushing the parapet to gain a push-back. All this happened within a fraction of a second and i am amazed about the same. Had the parapet wall not existed, i would have fell down some 15 feet below, with my head first hitting the ground and i would be nothing but a corpse ready to be taken to the cemetery. That day i thanked my stars. Even now while writing this post it gives me a shiver.
Next incident, relates to my friend. He was a two-wheeler tester at a company but his weakness was a little bit rash and NEGLIGENT being a chief. Once he was on a motor-cycle and tried to overtake a cart which was filled with iron rods. As it was downhill, he was a little bit fast and did not notice a scooter coming in the opposite direction. when he over took he was, badly hit by the scooter kick-starter handle on his right foot. The impact was so great that his right foot shoe was torn to pieces and so also his right foot, lost most of its flesh with a loss of abundant quantity of blood. The motor cycle, he was riding was thrown some 15 feet dragging him. Luckily he escaped death, but was hospitalised for nearly 3 months to recover from the same.
The above incidents are not merely quoted just for the sake of writing, BUT TO CAUTION THAT ONE SHOULD BE CAUTIOUS OF HIS SURROUNDINGS, SO AS TO PREVENT ANY UNTOWARD INCIDENTS TAKING PLACE.
